Pueblo County Colorado GenWeb
Pueblo was formed in 1861, it is an original county, and the county seat is Pueblo.
Originally home to Native American tribes, Pueblo was a favorite crossroads for fur traders and explorers who founded a trading post, Fort Pueblo, in the early 1840s. From here, Zebulon Pike launched the first expedition into the Arkansas River Valley. It was the discovery of gold in 1858 that began the development of the area in earnest, and the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s that spurred its growth.
